This is a pretty common reaction to pain that comes and goes over the months and years. Especially amongst men! It still surprises me after many years in clinic to hear that people have put up with back and neck pain over long periods of time. But it’s understandable.
You get used to pain or, at least, become resigned to it. Amongst the competing demands of daily life, people push themselves down the priority list often with the belief that ‘it’ll go away’ or ‘it’s not that bad’. Or, if people know they should do something there’s a reason for not taking that final step and actually doing it: they’re worried about getting treatment – what they might find out, that it might make things worse and that it’ll cost a fortune. Or they’re confused about where to turn – what sort of treatment to get and which practitioner to see.
So doing nothing is understandable. But it doesn’t sort the pain out. This is why I offer free 15 minute consultations. It means you can do something without worrying about it! There’s no hard sell, nobody gets the diary out at the end. People don’t know what osteopaths do, are worried about what treatment involves or aren’t sure what we can treat. So it’s a chance to come and find out. We’ll chat about your symptoms, maybe have a quick look at your posture and movements to get an idea as to whether we can help you. If you can, we’ll explain how. If we can’t then we’ll refer you to where you should be seeking help. So, be proactive, put yourself first and take that first step and give us a call to make that booking.
