If your body’s been feeling stiff, tight, or just not moving as well as it should, you’re not alone. We see it all the time, especially at this time of year.
As activity levels increase in Spring, the body is often asked to do more before it’s ready. That’s when stiffness builds, your body starts compensating, and certain areas take more strain than they should.
The good news?
It doesn’t take a long workout or a complete overhaul to make a difference.
In fact, a simple 10-minute daily routine is often enough to:
- Reduce stiffness
- Improve how your body moves
- Lower your risk of injury
- Help you feel more comfortable being active
This routine is particularly useful if you’re getting back into exercise, spending a lot of time sitting or just feeling generally stiff day-to-day.
Why Stiffness Leads to Injury
After periods of lower activity (like over winter), a few things commonly happen:
- Hips become tight and restricted
- Upper back mobility reduces
- Glutes and core become less active
- Movement patterns become less efficient
When you then increase activity – whether that’s running, gym work, or just being more active day-to-day – certain areas start to take more load than they should.
That’s when problems begin and is exactly where a short, targeted daily routine can make a big difference.
Your 10-Minute Daily Routine
This routine focuses on the areas we most commonly see contributing to stiffness and injury. It’s split into three key sections: mobility, activation, and movement.
These exercises are suitable for most people, regardless of fitness level.
Done consistently, they help restore mobility, activate key muscles, and improve overall movement.
1. Mobility (3–4 minutes)
Reduce stiffness and improve movement
- Hip flexor stretch
- Cat camel stretch
- Side Lying Thoracic Rotation (Open Book)
Keep these slow and controlled—this isn’t about forcing stretches.
2. Activation (3–4 minutes)
Support your joints and improve control
- Glute Bridge
- Dead Bug
You should feel these working, particularly glutes, core, and upper back—but without strain.
3. Movement (2–3 minutes)
Integrate everything and prepare your body for activity
- Bodyweight Squats
- Marching on the Spot
Think of this as waking the system up, not pushing hard.
What You Should Notice in 7 Days
If you do this routine consistently for a week, most people notice:
- Less stiffness, particularly in the morning
- Easier, more comfortable movement day-to-day
- Fewer aches when getting back into exercise
- A general feeling of being “looser” and more in control
It’s a simple routine and that’s exactly why it works. It’s easy to do, it’s easy to then do consistently and it makes you feel better!
If Something Doesn’t Feel Right, Don’t Ignore It
If you’re already dealing with pain – or something doesn’t feel quite right – then you might need more than this routine as it’s usually a sign your body needs something a bit more specific to you
That might be:
- A restriction that needs hands-on treatment
- A weakness or imbalance that needs targeted rehab
- Or simply a bit of guidance on what to do (and what to avoid)
This is where people often get stuck—trying to guess their way through it.
